ZHAOTONG PREFECTURE OVERVIEW |
Zhaotong is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Yunnan province of the
People's Republic of China.
Zhaotong city has kept a sizable part of its old town, comprising the
northern and eastern quarters. The city lies on a high plain at just under 2000
meters. Though influenced by the rainier weather of Sichuan and Guizhou, the
climate is mild, comparable to Kunming's. The old town comprises wooden shop
houses down narrow lanes, brick an tile private dwellings, and shops selling all
kind of stuff. In Zhaotong many Han old people dress in the traditional style -
women in big turbans, side-fastened jackets and log aprons; men in ankle-length
coats and with long beards on their chins. |
